Our Music Video

For our music video we have re-enacted 'Holiday' by 'Dizzee Rascal', the genre of music is 'Dance/Grime'.

The original music video features Dizzee Rascal, with many extra people with him in a holiday spot where there is a swimming pool. There are a lot more women in the video then men, this could perhaps be to do with the fact that Dizzee wants to give off the image that girls are very attracted to them or show off his popularity to the public.

The video is very stereotypical of a lad's holiday, when men go on holiday they would want to look for women, a good time, good music, drinking and having a laugh... This video has all these elements. Our video is a contrast of this as there are very little amount of women in it and the video is more to do with famous holiday places and being happy.

Dizzee's video is focused to one location whereas our video is focused on more than one. We wanted to show off many holiday locations because people can relate to them a lot more, whereas Dizzee's video is not really a place in the world you can relate to without being there.

The pink glow in our video represents the feeling you get when you're on holiday (a constant feeling of excitement/happiness) compared to how you would normally feel at home, the first shot with Ali and his umbrella is meant to be an ironic shot of this feeling, due to the rain and gloomy feel to the background, Ali just wishes he could be on holiday as his body language and facial expression shows.

  1. Quality of Lipsyncing:
Good, rapping is not as good but it is understandable as its quick :)

    Goodwins points:
Typical theme of a rap video with a unique twist with the green screen and different locations. Performance in it was good and rellates to the video genre and the lyrics. Voyeurism shown with girl being by rapper and dancing. Pink being dizzie rascals main colour, i dont think it works having it around the people as it takes away from the background.

    Suitability:
The video is very suitable to the song as it is typical of a rap video.

    Variety of shots:
3 different shots- no variety just a frontal shot with no angles or close ups, but the use of the green screen to add different locations makes up for this.

    Originality:
Not that original as it goes closely by the genre, however you did step out a bit by using the green screen.

  2. The lip synching is bad but we had the same so what you gonna do....

Goodwin's points: There is a pretty woman dancing and a good amount of hand movements and rhythm. You travel the world for the holiday therefore matching the lyrics. Different scenes change on the beat, we like. He looks at the camera.

The green screen was a good idea and adds originality.

  3. quality of lip syncing:
Good quality as the beats were quick.

    Goodwins points:
Use of green screen to create several 'holiday' like locations to fit in with the lyrics and overall theme of the song.

Objectivation of women is shown by the use of the female dancing next to the male rapper who dominates the video. This is used to fit in with the genre as many music videos of that genre use the same ideas.

Mise-en-scene: - Use of stereotypical 'tourist' holiday outfits and props to portray a holiday feel and make the audience aware of the holiday season.
